Annandale board hears facilities delays: middle school panels, track and a building‑wide HVAC plan

District facilities staff updated the Annandale Public School District board on several maintenance projects, reporting delays and next steps for electrical work, the track and HVAC systems.
On the middle school, Speaker 4 said the insurance-mandated conversion from fuse panels to circuit breakers required custom panels that were delayed until mid‑August; installation began Aug. 22 and electricians discovered additional wiring parts were needed, producing intermittent power outages in portions of the building while work continued.
Speaker 3 thanked middle school staff and “Miss Sable” for flexibility during the outage and noted the building’s complex, piecemeal construction made retrofitting modern panels technically challenging.
Regarding athletics infrastructure, Speaker 4 said the first asphalt layer for the new track is in place and the contractor assured the district the spectator fencing will be installed by Aug. 29 so the field can be used for the scheduled football game; striping and the final rubber surface will follow, with a 3–4 week cure time after the final layer.
On building-wide HVAC, Speaker 4 reviewed a multi-year problem: some DX units serving the gym, commons and academic wings were failing; supply and refrigerant issues delayed replacement units in 2024. The district has shifted to a dehumidification system designed by Wold to address building‑wide needs, with bidding planned for October and installation targeted in 2026.
Speaker 4 clarified funding: “All those projects are being funded by long term facility maintenance dollars,” and noted those funds are restricted to repair and maintenance.
Board members thanked staff for contractor coordination and pressed for timely completion of the track fencing ahead of scheduled events.
