Alma board reviews new buses, safety upgrades and surveillance plans

At its meeting the Alma School District board heard updates on transportation and safety projects, including the arrival of two district buses and planned security improvements.
A district staff member reported "We got 2 good looking big old buses out there driving down the road now," and described plans to add wraps (green/white/gold) rather than painting the vehicles. The buses already made a first trip to a chess meet, the administrator said.
On safety, the district said it will reinstall a fence from the primary school cafeteria to the playground after a vehicle incident and will add six to eight new cameras in each building as part of a broader safety package that also included SRO equipment, radios and window film. "Each school is probably gonna get 6 to 8 new cameras," an administrator said while summarizing approved campus improvements.
The board discussed budget timing for safety work, with administrators saying certain safety expenditures must be spent by June 30. No formal budget amendment was introduced at the meeting; the board continued with routine consent and personnel items.
