Carson City BLM asks $200,000 for MoonRocks planning, patrols and equipment

Paul Fusilay and Paul Amar explained the ask is focused on high‑use areas such as MoonRocks and Sand Mountain and would allocate roughly $100,000 to direct on‑the‑ground work and $100,000 to planning, equipment and enforcement support. Amar said the district will deploy saturation patrols composed of BLM Rangers, county sheriff partners and federal partners for large events and weekends, and stressed priorities for "human health and safety is number 1 priority." The presentation highlighted that MoonRocks sees tens of thousands of visitors and that NEPA work and a federal register notice are needed to finalize supplemental management rules (e.g., helmet requirements) and to unlock construction and enforcement options.
Commissioners asked about the composition and duties of saturation patrols, whether additional rangers would be available, and how patrols would be coordinated across jurisdictions for responsibilities such as helmet enforcement and registration checks. BLM representatives said patrols would be a coordinated multi‑agency effort and that the requested funds would help complete NEPA and contract with trail‑building partners.
