Davie County Schools to adopt Aristotle K12 for web filtering, email scanning and classroom management

Dr. Blattner told the board the district is changing its student-safety platform to Aristotle K12, a vendor-built education product that provides web filtering, email and drive safety scans, and classroom-management tools.
He said the product is specifically designed for K–12 rather than repurposed business tools and will give teachers greater classroom control — for example, allowing a teacher to release a single YouTube video for a class or limit the number of open browser tabs for students. The system routes higher-concern email or drive alerts to principals, counselors or SROs and can send texts for escalations, he said. He described the platform’s email/drive scanning as AI-driven "not large language model AI" and emphasized it will be configured to notify appropriate staff depending on the category of concern.
Dr. Blattner said the district conducted a technical compatibility review, gathered teacher and administrator feedback and included student-support services in the selection before recommending the switch. Training for teachers, support staff and administrators will follow the technical transition date planned for later this month, he said.
When asked about classroom management, he said the tool is intended to free teachers from policing screens so they can spend time interacting with students.
The board did not receive public comment on the item at the meeting.
