Superintendent outlines early bond planning, cites aging pool and mechanical systems

Superintendent Brian told the board the administration has been reviewing survey data and community feedback since the May election and is preparing to bring bond questions forward. He said the team is considering two questions to better differentiate project priorities and is working to keep dollar amounts lower where possible.
On facilities priorities, Brian said the high-school pool needs significant work: "it's over 40 years old," he said, and the district also needs to address backend mechanical systems in the high school. He said those items are likely to appear in the first question being considered for a bond.
Brian said recent legislation gives districts an additional mechanism to address some needs but emphasized that those dollars are separate from the bond plan under development. He asked the board to authorize staff to submit a review-and-comment package to MDE; the board moved and approved that authorization.
Brian said staff aim to finalize the materials by Sept. 1 and have required public notice printing in November if the district proceeds toward a winter 2026 ballot. He said more detailed proposals and cost breakdowns will return to the board in September or October.
