The Canton City Council on July 3 approved two water‑system actions: awarding the Ridge Pine elevated tank and booster pump contract to Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors LLC for $13,237,000, and authorizing an emergency pump replacement for the Ridge Pine booster station totaling $65,685.71.
Miss Watson told council that the city received three bids for the Ridge Pine project and recommended the lowest responsive bid of $13,237,000. Project elements include construction of a new elevated tank, decommissioning and removal of the existing Ridge Pine elevated tank, and replacement of the Kmart booster station (a project staff said will be funded from the water and sewer fund). Watson said the engineer estimated the project schedule at about 580 days (roughly 20 months) and noted SPLOST and impact fees as likely funding components for related pedestrian and park projects in the same parcel.
Separately, staff described an emergency failure at the Ridge Pine booster station: an obsolete pump had failed and replacement parts were unavailable, so the city ordered a new pump; council approved an emergency purchase of $65,685.71 to restore service.
What’s next: staff will proceed with contract execution and preconstruction planning with Phoenix Fabricators and will continue procurement and installation of the emergency pump to maintain system reliability.
