Bristol council approves $46,067 supplemental appropriation for police, fire and sheriff

Bristol — The Bristol City Council voted unanimously Jan. 13 to approve a $46,067 supplemental appropriation from the general fund to cover a set of public‑safety expenditures.
In a staff report presented by Miss Spradlin, council was told the appropriation covers several separate line items: $3,732 from sale proceeds for police operating supplies; $2,010 to recover overtime costs; $10,000 in donated funds for police equipment; $9,325 in insurance proceeds for fire‑department repairs; $10,000 in donations to the fire department; $10,000 donated to the sheriff’s operations; and $1,000 for a “Shop with a Hero” grant administered by the sheriff’s grants department. "Staff does recommend that council approve the supplemental appropriation as listed," Spradlin said.
Councilmember discussion was brief and appreciative; several members thanked the United Company Foundation for donations to police and fire. A motion to approve the appropriation passed on a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes.
The appropriation is drawn from general‑fund appropriations and staff indicated the funds will be applied to the specified operating, equipment and repair needs. The council did not attach additional conditions or amendments to the appropriation at the time of the vote.
What's next: The council’s clerk recorded the adoption of the appropriation; implementation will be handled through the respective departments’ purchasing and finance processes.
