The Catawba County Board of Education voted unanimously on June 9 to amend Policy 3.8 (Testing and Assessment Program) to match State Board of Education language on how high‑school end‑of‑course (EOC) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) state assessment results are weighted.
Crystal Davis told the board the policy change specifies that "the results of the EOC test and CTE state assessments will count as 20% of a student's final grade in each high school course for which there is an EOC test or CTE," while also listing exceptions: 1) English learner students in their first year in a U.S. school; 2) students following an occupational course‑of‑study pathway or whose IEP excludes EOC results; and 3) students enrolled in a course during the initial implementation year of a new assessment where proficiency scores are not yet available.
Davis also noted an administrative requirement to report local standardized testing results to the board in even‑numbered years and to prepare, if required, a plan to reduce time spent on testing in compliance with state law. The board approved both changes without additional amendment.
