The Coos Bay School District Board voted to approve a new three‑year bargaining agreement with the district’s classified union and to adopt the board’s and superintendent’s goals for the 2025–26 school year.
The vote followed an executive session under ORS 192.660 to conduct labor negotiations. ‘‘I will move that we approve the bargaining agreement with LSCA 2025 to 2028,’’ Arnie said when making the motion. After discussion, the board voted and the chair announced the motion carries.
The agreement was described in open session as the contract between OSEA and the Coos Bay School District for the 2025 to 2028 school years. Board members thanked the district negotiators and union representatives; the motion to approve the contract was moved, seconded and approved on a roll call of board members who registered ‘aye.’
Also on the agenda, the board amended and adopted its board goals. A friendly amendment removed the tentative fourth goal so the board adopted goals 1–3 as its priorities for 2025–26. Later the board approved the superintendent’s goals after clarifying the language to refer to a four‑year graduation rate and a five‑year completion rate.
On the personnel side, the board moved to adopt a Board of Directors and Superintendent working agreement, choosing option B (which places superintendent oversight under board authority). During discussion members proposed—and the board approved—a friendly amendment to the clause describing personnel authority so it expressly listed hiring, firing, and performance evaluation as examples of the personnel management processes overseen by the board. The amended option B and the working agreement were then adopted by vote.
Votes at a glance - Approve agenda: motion moved and approved by unanimous board voice vote. - Approve bargaining agreement (OSEA / 2025–2028): moved by Arnie, seconded; recorded board ‘ayes’ and chair announced motion carries. - Consent agenda: approved by voice vote. - Adopt board goals (1–3): adopted after friendly amendment; roll‑call votes recorded as ayes. - Adopt superintendent goals (amended to clarify 4‑year graduation and 5‑year completion): approved by roll call. - Adopt Board–Superintendent Working Agreement (Option B, amended to include termination language): adopted following amendment and roll‑call vote.
What’s next: Board members flagged follow‑up tasks, including preparing clean contract copies for signatures and distributing the monthly accounts‑payable reports for review. The district said staff will coordinate final signatures and publish the contract paperwork.
