Audit follow-up, textbook inventory change and board reads proposed AI policy

The audit committee reported an internal review found gaps in the district’s asset-tracking processes and requested a follow-up report and a flowchart to clarify roles for handling assets that appear to be missing. "We decided to have some sort of a flowchart that would be made up, so that everybody in the chain...would know what their role is," the audit committee chair said.
Related to inventory policy, staff proposed removing the textbook-inventory component from the district’s DSC inventory policy because most curricular materials are now subscription-based and the practice imposes administrative burden on bookkeepers and assistant principals.
Board member Barry Rochelle read the proposed AI policy aloud to the committee and asked that it be widely publicized. The read language stated: "The use of AI in any class work, homework, assessment, quiz, test, or other assignment is prohibited unless explicitly permitted by a teacher for that specific task." Superintendent Burton added the district will publicize the policy through its media outlets and treat unauthorized AI use under existing plagiarism discipline rules: "If AI is used then it becomes a plagiarism that already fits into our discipline policy." The AI language was slated for inclusion on the consent agenda.
No formal adoption votes for these policy changes were recorded at the executive-committee meeting; items were routed to the consent agenda for the full board meeting.
