The Burrillville School Committee voted on Sept. 9, 2025, to remove a job-description approval policy that, administrators said, requires a two-meeting (first and second reading) process for new positions and can delay posting and hiring.
Superintendent Dr. Solito told the committee that the policy dates from around 2000 and that the requirement to hold two readings for any new job-description approval creates a practical hiring delay of roughly two months. "If we created a job that we wanted to post tomorrow, we'd have to wait at least 2 months before we could post for that position to hire someone," he said, urging the committee to consider eliminating the procedural burden.
A motion to withdraw the policy was made and seconded; the recorder stated the motion was made by Donovan Allen and seconded by Sean Boesen. The committee voted in favor (voice vote) and the policy was removed from the district's standing requirements to streamline future hiring steps. Committee members said the administration will continue to inform the committee when new positions are created or job descriptions change.
The vote does not itself create new positions; it changes the committee's procedural review requirements so that administrators can bring positions to the committee for input through standard updates rather than a formal two-reading process.
