Superintendent reports heating, chiller and AC progress and $275,000 FEMA reimbursement for Beauregard Parish schools

During the superintendent's report, Superintendent Holly updated the Beauregard Parish School Board on maintenance work, bond-project status and emergency reimbursements.
Holly said most summer professional-development work has prepared teachers to offer new computer-science and STEM courses next year, then moved to facilities updates. He reported a repaired chiller at DeRidder High School and said the district is about "68% parish wide at full capacity" for its air-conditioning systems. Holly told the board that, with an additional $1 million in planned AC bidding, the district could move toward 90—295% of schools with new, efficient units.
Holly reviewed remaining projects from the 2023 bond package, explained why construction and code requirements had produced estimated overages on some projects, and said he had built contingency cushions into new estimates. He said the district currently projects roughly $4.9 million remaining in the bond fund once listed projects are complete.
He also reported the district expects a $275,000 FEMA reimbursement related to Hurricane Laura reclamations; Holly said he intends to mark those funds for roof projects on three older buildings.
On site work: Holly reported the projected date for completion and occupation of new bleachers is Sept. 12 to coincide with the school's first home game, and that some punch-list items and fire-marshal checks will happen in advance.
Board members asked clarifying questions about timing and inspections; Holly and maintenance staff described in-house HVAC solutions that have already produced savings on two projects.
