TFSC to require online renewals starting January and introduce one‑time background checks for owners

Licensing staff reported at the Dec. 17 meeting that the Texas Funeral Service Commission will move licensing renewals online starting in January.
Miss Haynes, who presented the licensing report, said TFSC "has launched an online licensing renewal system" and that starting in January paper renewal applications "will no longer be accepted." She explained the online system includes a four‑step user guide and that renewal notifications will be sent to the email address on file; licensees were advised to confirm their contact information.
Haynes also said the commission has emailed background check instructions to licensed individuals and establishment owners. She clarified that the owner background check is a one‑time requirement: once completed, the owner is subscribed to the commission's monitoring and future events will be reviewed by agency staff.
Staff provided a contact for questions (licensing@tfsc.texas.gov and (512) 936-2474) and said they will coordinate outreach with stakeholder groups such as the TFDA and continuing education mailings to reach licensees who rely on mailed postcards.
Next steps: staff will send renewal notifications by email and continue outreach to ensure licensees who typically receive mailed notices are informed about the change.
