District staff updated the board on the QCOMP professional-development program, describing its core elements: each teacher develops a professional growth plan tied to district literacy goals and SMART targets, participates in research-based professional learning communities (PLCs), completes peer-to-peer observations (three per year) and documents progress for annual review. Presenters said the district provides modest funds for resources to support PLC research and that participation varies by building (presenters cited participant counts for elementary, middle and high school groups).
Staff also described a statutory requirement from the prior legislative session that districts revise teacher-evaluation rubrics to include culturally responsive pedagogies. The district convened an advisory team, worked with consultants and the Minnesota Department of Education, piloted drafts with staff during a professional development day, and plans to roll out the revised rubric in classrooms this fall.
There was no board action required; presenters said the program continues and that staff will return with data, teacher reflections and MCA results in the fall.
