St. Clair Shores honors residents and businesses with 2025 Beautification Awards

The St. Clair Shores City Council recognized homeowners and businesses at its Sept. 15 meeting, presenting the 2025 Beautification Awards and issuing a proclamation honoring resident Tanina Lafada on her 100th/101st birthday.
Mayor Pro Tem Rubello read a proclamation celebrating Lafada’s life and community ties; family members joined the dais for remarks and a photograph. "It is my pleasure to be able to give you a proclamation from the city of St. Clair Shores on behalf of everybody including the mayor who's not here today," Rubello said as he introduced the honor.
Lil Claycomb, chair of the Beautification Commission, explained the nomination and voting process used by the 12-member commission, saying selections balance changes to homes (roofs, patios, shutters) and landscaping. Winners included Janice Du Michele and Jim Marshall, Alex and Erica Toye, Anthony and Francis Julian, Wynwood Point Condominiums, Dr. Brian Hunt, Lateview Condominiums, H3 Wellness Collective, Bright Side Dental and Mike's on the Water. She said the commission considers both property improvements and long-term landscape maintenance when selecting awardees.
The council thanked volunteers and local businesses that donate materials and services, including Sawyer Landscaping and First State Bank for annual tulip donations. A reception for awardees was held after the meeting.
The proclamation and award presentations were ceremonial; no council action was required beyond recognition. The council encouraged residents to contact the Beautification Commission if they wish to nominate properties for future awards.
