Commission approves special use for second dwelling so family can provide in‑home care

The Oconee County Planning Commission on Sept. 15 recommended conditional approval of a special use permit (P25050) that allows a manufactured home as a second dwelling on a parcel with an existing single‑family house.
Planning staff described the request and recommended conditional approval. Lindsey Cooper, a resident of 1300 Sam Cooper Road, told the commission she and her husband are applying for the permit so her parents can live with them "just due to health concerns, health reasons." She said the arrangement would allow the family to help care for them.
Commissioners confirmed that a septic system will be installed for the additional dwelling. Anne moved to approve with conditions; James seconded the motion and the commission voted in favor to forward the recommendation to the Board of Commissioners.
Next steps: The Board of Commissioners will consider the Planning Commission's recommendation; building permits and compliance with staff conditions will be required before the manufactured home permit is issued.
