The Nevada Department of Education on Aug. 13 opened a workshop to revise state rules governing professional development for teachers and administrators. Jeff Brisky, director of educator development and family engagement, said the rulemaking (regulation 137‑23 amending NAC 391A.300) updates Nevada standards to reflect the current Learning Forward National Standards and aligns with prior regulatory updates to licensure renewal and continuing-education processes.
Brisky stressed that the proposed language clarifies that learning goals for teachers and administrators are broadly focused on student needs rather than individual educator‑performance framework goals. The regulation is intended to complete the department’s earlier rule revisions (R08823) that updated licensure renewal requirements and approval processes for continuing‑education providers.
No public comments were offered on this item at the workshop; the department invited additional written feedback through normal rulemaking channels.
