Board approves HDR Architecture for STEM high school design in accelerated schedule

The Council Bluffs Comm School District board approved HDR Architecture, Inc. to provide architectural services for the planned STEM High School.
District staff said they issued a request for qualifications, received about 12 firm submissions, and shortlisted three firms for hour-long interviews. "HDR did rise to the top with the energy, the plan, the proposal," a staff presenter said, describing close scores among finalists.
The board discussed the procurement rubric, interview process and the potential for additional services depending on site conditions such as soil samples and erosion and sediment control work. The contract documentation notes a sustainable-objective component was marked "not applicable" because the design timeline is accelerated from a typical nine months to approximately six months.
A board member moved to approve HDR Architecture for the STEM high school; the motion was seconded. During roll call Miss Myers, Mister Peters, Mister Tripp, Doctor Ozello, Miss Hardiman and Missus Greiner each voted "yes" and the motion carried.
What’s next: staff will proceed with the design under the accelerated schedule and return to the board with any contract amendments or additional services required by site investigations or design developments.
