Elsa Police present teen life-skills summer program; district partnership continues

Elsa Police representatives described a five-week Teen Life Skills summer program for students in grades 9-12 during the board meeting on June 19. The program covers confidence and communication, personal finance, job readiness and career exploration, social media and digital responsibility, and community service and leadership.
Chief (transcript header: Elsa Police Chief Robert McGuinness) said the program is volunteer-run and partners with banks, workforce solutions and other community volunteers to deliver expert sessions. He told trustees that the first session produced strong engagement and that 65 students had already registered for an upcoming session; nutrition staff were providing breakfast and lunch for program participants.
Chief McGuinness described planned expansions including a Texas public safety cadet program, a books-and-badges literacy outreach and a "chief for the day" student recognition activity. He also thanked the district leadership for increased cooperation and access to facilities.
The board thanked the police department and acknowledged plans to continue the partnership.
