Region 1 presents SB 1882 custodial and grounds team-cleaning plan to improve campus maintenance

Representatives from Region 1 presented to the Edcouch-Elsa ISD board on June 19 a custodial and grounds maintenance plan that the district could implement under the SB 1882 partnership model. The proposal advocates shifting from a zone-cleaning model (where a single custodian covers multiple areas) to a team-cleaning model with defined specialist roles (light-duty specialist, restroom specialist, vacuum/sweeper specialist and utility specialist) and consistent daily, weekly and monthly task schedules.
Region 1 staff described training used in pilot schools, an example where a two-person sweep and role specialization reduced classroom turnaround time to under three minutes, and a weekly grounds schedule to ensure mowing and landscape maintenance are performed consistently across campuses rather than irregularly. Region 1 told the board it can provide training to district custodial and maintenance staff at no cost and asked for the districts support to implement the model.
District trustees and administrators discussed logistical questions and thanked Region 1 for the presentation. There was broad board support expressed in the meeting record; Region 1 representatives said the program would increase consistency, efficiency and staff satisfaction and could improve learning environments.
Next steps: district staff to coordinate training rollout and scope with Region 1 and pilot team-cleaning implementation on select campuses.
