The Douglas County School District No. Re 1 Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved multiple items including a new online curriculum vendor, annual maintenance projects, two community memoranda of understanding and the district's tentative budget.
Trustees voted unanimously to move forward with Edmentum as the district's 6–12 online curriculum provider after a multi-vendor review by an adoption committee. Assistant/administrator Brown told the board the committee narrowed three finalists and "overwhelmingly unanimous, it was Edmentum," and noted the district's anticipated cost would be about $58,000 compared with approximately $72,000 previously paid to the existing provider.
The board also approved three maintenance contracts: a roofing project (award $96,450; not to exceed $100,000), a concrete project ($46,336.50; not to exceed $100,000) and a pavement project ($64,221.48; not to exceed $100,000). Project staff said the district uses unit pricing and partners with Garland Roofing for design and warranty oversight on roofing work.
Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with Seniors in Service to place Foster Grandparents in district schools. Sherry Brown of Seniors in Service described criminal- and federal-level background checks and a modest stipend for qualifying volunteers.
The board also renewed a memorandum of understanding with JAG Nevada (Jobs for America's Graduates) to continue a campus-based career-readiness program. Presenters cited local outcomes (the district reported a 100% graduation rate for JAG seniors and a roughly 77.78% employment rate for program graduates) and sought a district cost-share; trustees resolved a final motion to accept the MOU as presented.
Trustees approved a revised annual calendar that moves three state-required contingency days into the regular year (the presentation cited April 17, May 22 and June 5 as the planned dates) and unanimously adopted a tentative budget staff described as speculative amid enrollment declines and state revenue uncertainty.
The board recorded each vote and asked staff to return with contract details and follow-up materials where appropriate. No public comments were made on the items at the meeting.
The board will consider related follow-ups and contract documents at future meetings.
