Hartland board reconfirms Cindy Shaw as vice president after brief challenge

The Hartland Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Aug. 11 reconfirmed Cindy Shaw in the office of vice president after trustees agreed to add a confirmation to the meeting agenda and then voted on the appointment.

Trustee Campbell moved to appoint Cindy Shaw to the office of vice president; the motion was seconded and then approved by roll call. Trustee Keller cast the only recorded 'no' vote; the remaining trustees voted 'yes.' The board said the reconfirmation was intended to remove any ambiguity after a prior meeting where the term 'nominate' rather than 'appoint' had been used.

Board President or meeting chair summarized the rationale: there was "technically nothing" that would void the earlier vote, but the reconfirmation served to "dot our i's and cross our t's" and make the appointment "official, I guess," the chair said.

The vote followed procedural motions earlier in the meeting that amended the agenda to add the confirmation item. The board did not record additional debate on Cindy Shaw's qualifications during the session; trustees moved quickly to a roll-call vote after the motion and second.

Next steps: The reconfirmation completes the board's internal appointment process; no further action on the matter was scheduled at the meeting.
