CUMBERLAND — At its Sept. 25 meeting the Cumberland School Committee handled routine business, approving consent items, several resolutions and a Chartwells bill while tabling two items pending additional information.
Votes taken (all votes reported 6–0 unless noted): the committee approved the agenda and the consent agenda (regular and executive session minutes; bus inspection report), reported no votes taken in executive session, and voted to seal the executive session minutes. The committee approved homeschool instruction requests for the 2025–26 year.
Fiscal business included consideration of 10 resolutions discussed by the fiscal subcommittee; one resolution (SCPR‑2051‑131) was tabled for missing information and the remainder were moved as a package and approved. The committee also approved payment of Chartwells bills for August in the amount of $70,046.82; the fiscal subcommittee had approved that payment 2–0.
Two items were not finalized at the meeting. The committee tabled approval of the 2025–26 bus routes to allow transportation staff to provide a stop‑level analysis and return with possible consolidations. The memorandum of agreement with a Foster Grandparent/AmeriCorps program for Ashton School was also tabled until a representative or additional details can be presented; members asked about background checks, liability, program scope and contract duration.
Motions referenced their movers and seconders in the record (for example, the motion to seal executive session minutes was moved by Miss Goldstein and seconded by Miss Smith). Several items passed unanimously in the absence of Mr. Dean, who was recorded as absent.
Next steps: staff will return to the committee with requested details on bus stops and the AmeriCorps agreement; town leaders will be asked to consider the committee's ordinance request related to school property loitering.
