Commission signs Juvenile Justice reimbursement paperwork, OKs search-and-rescue and sheriff transfers

At the June 30 meeting county staff asked the commission to authorize signatures and designations for several budget items tied to juvenile programming and emergency services.
Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Initiative: Lexi (county staff) and Brenda presented the county’s annual reimbursement packet: Lawrence County logged 121 youth participating in diversion during the last fiscal year, with 97 successfully completing the program. The county is eligible for reimbursement up to $750 per qualifying youth; the commission moved to authorize Brenda (or staff) to sign the packet and to designate the large-county court as the recipient of those funds, as has been done historically. The motion, amended to include designation to the court, passed by voice vote.
Search and Rescue supplemental budget: Brenda presented a public hearing request to supplement the search-and-rescue budget with a $500 donation for the Mickelson Trail and a $1,000 donation from Recreational Springs; volunteer Joe Lillo (Lawrence County Search and Rescue) explained the fundraiser and how the money would be used for protective equipment, and the commission approved adding the funds to the search-and-rescue budget.
Sheriff vehicle repair: The commission approved a supplemental transfer of $5,453.42 to pay for court-transit vehicle damage; staff moved the funds into the sheriff’s travel/repair budget and the motion carried by voice vote.
"We actually had a 121 total youth from Lawrence County who participated in our programming, over this last fiscal year, and 97 of them have completed," Lexi said. "All I'm asking for today is that if you guys see fit to please sign this so we can send it into the state and hopefully get reimbursed the money for you guys."
Each action was approved by the commission during the session; staff will submit the juvenile reimbursement packet to the state and record the supplemental budget transfers.
