College Park police report steady decline in some crimes, detail carjacking and active investigations

College Park contract police told the city’s hybrid public safety briefing that overall crime has trended downward since a June peak but that several violent and property crimes remain under active investigation.
“During the month of July, we had 1 citizen robbery. We had 1 carjacking,” ADC Calady said, summarizing the July count and later adding that the carjacking in the 9700 block of 52nd Avenue ended when the stolen vehicle crashed in the 6300 block of Greenbelt Road. He said that arrest and investigative work closed the unarmed robbery in the 7500 block of Columbia Avenue but that other burglaries and commercial break-ins remain active investigations.
