Shamokin Area School District honors directors and students; student council presents plans for science fair and arts night

The Shamokin Area School District Board of Directors opened its meeting by recognizing January as School Director Recognition Month and presenting certificates to board members for their service.
A statement read by a district representative noted the importance of public education and thanked board members "for their service." Board members receiving certificates were named during the presentation.
During the student accomplishments segment, Mr. Hockenbrock highlighted November and December honorees, announced scheduling dates (scheduling for next year on Feb. 11, a Votec tour rescheduled to Jan. 29, and an alumni exam on Feb. 25) and noted that three students had reached the 1,000-point mark in high school basketball: Delilah Nasi, Jensen Shuey and Kaye Slicki.
Student council advisor Missus Neri and four student council members (vice president Brooklyn Miller, treasurer Remington Wood and members Evie Startzel and Lily Sine) presented a token of appreciation and described plans to reboot the elementary science fair (targeting April), stage a short elementary musical and hold a combined science-and-arts night.
The presentations preceded regular board business and were followed by the meeting's consent and action items. No members of the public addressed the board during the citizens' comment period.
