The Star City Council voted July 1 to tentatively approve publication of the city’s 2026 appropriation so the city can hold a public hearing on Aug. 7.
The presiding official read the tentative figures into the record: a total appropriation of about $26,000,005.59 and a property tax levy amount of $2,202,714. The mayor clarified the publication is a procedural step that allows the formal budget hearing to occur in August and does not finalize the appropriation.
Councilmember Hershey moved to approve publication of the tentative appropriation figures; the motion was seconded, taken to roll call and carried with the members voting in favor. The council scheduled the public hearing for Aug. 7 to review the appropriation further.
Next steps: the published appropriation will be subject to public comment at the August public hearing and subsequent council deliberations before any final adoption.
