The Tomball City Council read a proclamation recognizing Sept. 14, 2025, as Star-Spangled Banner Day and accepted a presentation from the local chapter of the National Society, United States Daughters of 1812.
Jennifer McStravick, who identified herself as a member of the Captain James Asbury Tate chapter, described the chapter’s century-long work promoting the history of the War of 1812, educating students about the national anthem’s origins, and donating books and educational materials to local schools and libraries. "We are excited this year to promote September 14 as Star-Spangled Banner Day and thank the city of Tomball for this proclamation," McStravick said.
The council also heard from Amanda Kelly, market manager for the Tomball Farmers Market, who presented a $2,800 donation to Holiday Heroes, the charitable program supported by the market’s annual dunk-tank fundraiser. Kelly described how community members — including the mayor and city officials — participated in the dunk-tank event to raise funds for local needs. "We were able to raise an amazing $2,800 for Holiday Heroes this year," Kelly said.
Council members thanked both organizations for their community work and accepted the proclamation and donation on behalf of the city. No formal council action beyond acceptance and ceremonial recognition was recorded.
