Director outlines back-to-school dates, roofs and Sweetwater rebid; AC PO issued

Dr. Windsor, the Monroe County director of schools, gave a short operational report at the board meeting and staff provided updates on facility projects and procurement.
Dr. Windsor (Speaker 4) said the coordinated school health 'back to school bash' will be July 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., countywide in-service is July 29, teachers return July 28 and students begin Aug. 1 with a 10 a.m. dismissal. She asked that staff and families note those dates.
Facilities staff (Speaker 5) reported the Veil school's flat roof section is complete with no leaks, roof panels are on site and the contractor is awaiting an additional roll of metal to finish forming and hanging panels; the project is expected to be finished before school starts. Sweetwater’s renovation has been rebid three times after previous bids came in over the project budget; Speaker 5 said the next bid opening is scheduled for Aug. 5 and the district has modified materials and specifications to attempt to bring costs down. Speaker 5 said the district’s budget for Sweetwater is $1,600,000 and earlier bids exceeded that figure.
On the middle-school air-conditioning, Speaker 5 reported a purchase order was issued Tuesday and that engineers have started electrical and mechanical planning, though a firm start date was not yet available.
Board members asked to explore bus-route adjustments and parent drop-off options; Dr. Windsor agreed staff would set up a transportation meeting to evaluate options with Rusty and others.
A board member praised recent renovations at 'Realvail' (floors and lighting) and Speaker 5 confirmed front landscaping work is complete.
What’s next The Sweetwater bid opening is scheduled for Aug. 5; board members discussed a possible delay of award until Sept. 1 for further review but did not formally postpone the process at the meeting.
