Forney ISD expands neighborhood pre-K, announces new academies and updates construction progress

During the board meeting Kim Morissack presented the master planning update and outlined construction and program expansion plans for the district.

Morissack said construction on the new Forney Learning Academy is progressing, with roof work under way and the shared access road forming up; she described the project as on schedule and on budget. She also presented a plan to expand neighborhood pre-K next school year, adding pre-K at Blackburn, Griffin, Johnson, Lewis and Willett for the 2025–26 school year to increase accessibility, walkability and parent engagement. "Neighborhood pre-K is the best thing for our communities," Morissack said, listing benefits including increased kindergarten readiness and stronger parent connections to campus staff.

Morissack outlined additional choice programs and academies to expand family options: a fifth–sixth grade Theater Academy, a fourth–seventh Coding & Robotics Academy, Entrepreneurship & Global Leadership, and golf and swim academies for fourth–seventh grades. She noted expansion of the Fine Arts Academy to a sister campus at Ray and continuation of existing programs.

Separately, Morissack presented a Gallagher bid for summer capital projects, including Henderson Elementary roof and rooftop HVAC units (the bid later was approved by the board). The presentation listed the roofing and HVAC work as priority capital projects to complete during summer to avoid schedule delays.

Next steps: the district will expand pre-K to the named neighborhood campuses in 2025–26 pending operational planning, proceed with the Forney Learning Academy construction, and implement the new academies and OC programming as described.
