The Davie County Board of Education approved a purchase of 1,200 Chromebooks from Trafera for $430,346.31, citing the district’s need to maintain a 1:1 student-to-device ratio.
Finance officer Clay Harris told the board that the devices are being purchased on state contract and that the district will fund the purchase from capital outlay. "I present to you the contract for us to go with Trafera to purchase the, 1,200 Chromebooks at a cost of $430,346.31," he said, noting that the state contract explains why the district did not solicit multiple bids.
Jeff moved to approve the purchase and Khan seconded; the board approved the contract by show of hands. The finance officer said the purchase had been discussed in the budget work session and the consent agenda was amended previously to permit the funding transfer.
The board did not discuss alternative vendors during the meeting; Harris’s presentation emphasized the state-contract procurement route. The district identified the purchase as capital outlay to preserve its one-to-one device program.
Next steps include finalizing the contract with Trafera and scheduling delivery and deployment with district technology staff.
