The superintendent told the board that North Brandywine Middle School is on track to open for students on Aug. 25: "Yes, it will," and added that "the air is on, and the paint is already completed" and that furniture deliveries for North Brandywine and Reesville arrived ahead of schedule. The superintendent also described progress at Doe Run — foundation work, stairwell shafts and elevator installation — and said construction photos are being posted to the district’s community tab online.
On finance, a board member observed that the district’s year-end revenue and expense reports currently appear to show "about a $4,000,000 shortfall." District finance staff explained that the figure could change as they complete a standard reclassification process that may move eligible expenses into capital accounts. The board approved the financial statements and bills payable as presented; the superintendent and finance staff described the numbers as subject to final accounting reclassification.
The board approved coach renewals for 2025–26 with the explicit exception of three weight-training coach positions, which were pulled for individual votes. A director pressed for clearer job descriptions and utilization data for those roles — including how hours are assigned across three seasons and whether student sign-in metrics would be collected. The superintendent agreed to develop formal job descriptions and to add sign-in metrics going forward.
In human resources business, the board approved the HR report and addendum, which included resignations, appointments and other staffing changes. The board welcomed Jarvin Williams, identified in the meeting as the district’s incoming principal at North Brandywine Middle School; a member of the public also praised other recently hired staff.
Public comment focused on staffing and fiscal transparency. Lori Shannon Bailey, during the public-comment period, thanked the board for the new North Brandywine principal and praised Coach Allen’s work with students. She also asked for more detail about teacher retention and the district’s use of its fund balance, noting past practice of treating the fund balance as a savings account and querying why the district now shows large balances allocated to multiple uses.
The board announced that committee meetings are scheduled for Aug. 12 (followed by a special board meeting) and that the next regular meeting will be Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. The meeting adjourned after routine motions and votes.
