The Chisago Lakes School District board approved a package of budget adjustments for fiscal 2026 and took several personnel actions during its meeting.
Sarah (identified in the meeting as the presenter for the budget item) summarized the district’s fiscal picture: “we're down over 200 students since 2020,” she said, which she estimated conservatively had reduced revenue by “over $5,500,000.” She described a set of proposed adjustments — a combination of two position changes, retirement savings, reductions in certified and non‑certified staff tied to enrollment, system efficiencies (copiers/printers/building checks), reductions in some summer transportation and a decrease in athletic training — that together amounted to “a little over $880,000.”
Board members discussed the state funding outlook and the local impact of years of cuts. One board member said many Minnesota districts are making deep cuts and urged community support for bonds, arguing that continued state budget shortfalls are increasing pressure on local districts.
The board voted to accept the FY26 budget adjustments after a motion and second. The meeting record shows the motion passed by voice vote.
On personnel actions, the board approved multiple routine resolutions required annually: nonrenewal for Tier 1 teachers, a resolution pertaining to long‑term substitute teachers, and a roll call vote to nonrenew certain probationary teachers. The roll call recorded the following votes: “Sarah, aye; Josh, aye; Brenda, aye; Jen, aye; Jeff, aye; Gloria, aye.” The board also approved a separate amendment to the January 6 minutes to correct a referendum date and separately approved Jeff’s assistant track coaching contract.
The board recorded several community donations during the meeting: TF Parents for Education Group ($1,004.70 and $3,000), TF Lions Club ($500 scholarship), Saint Croix Foundation ($5,000), Alamo Fresh Aid Company (FFA $1,000), CLP deal (Lakeside $865), a BTO social committee donation ($3,249 to a primary school), Pheasants Forever ($250 each for boys and girls shooting), and Lyric ($1,200 to volleyball). The board moved and accepted the donations and took the standard resolutions to accept them.
District staff also noted that a required review‑and‑comment submission to the Minnesota Department of Education for a facility/bond process had been posted and returned with a positive review; the district said the document was posted as required and is available on the district website.
The meeting moved on to the Wildcat Academy item and other business before adjournment.
