Council approves three zoning changes after consolidated hearing; no public speakers

The Lubbock City Council unanimously approved three consolidated zoning cases on Sept. 23 after staff presentations and a Planning & Zoning Commission recommendation of approval.
Planning & Zoning Manager Greg Hernandez summarized the three cases: zone case 0774-c (Jesus Tejera/Iglesias Del Dios Vivo) requests a change from light industrial to neighborhood commercial near Martin Luther King Boulevard and 50th Street (30 notices sent; no comments received); zone case 3116-M (SK Architect Group LLC for JSJW Holding LLC) proposes heavy commercial to neighborhood commercial south of 130th Street near future Loop 88 (15 notices sent; no comments received); and zone case 3533 (Mountain Top Engineering LLC for Patel) proposes SF-2 to neighborhood commercial west of Milwaukee Avenue and north of 104th Street (9 notices sent; one response in favor, the applicant).
Hernandez told council staff found each request consistent with surrounding land uses or the comprehensive plan principles and that the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval by a 7–0 vote. Council opened a consolidated public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Following the hearing, council moved, seconded and approved items 7.2–7.4 by unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: The approved zone changes will proceed through the normal ordinance process and be reflected in the city's zoning maps.
