Council approves rezoning for HHJ Group parcel at D Street and Beaman to R‑8 residential

City staff told the council the parcel measures about 16,155 square feet, has access to city water and sewer, and that adjoining property owners had been notified. "The property is currently zoned Highway Commercial; the applicant is requesting that it be zoned to R‑8 residential," a staff presentation stated. Staff also noted the Clinton 2035 comprehensive plan directs the city to consider preservation of residential neighborhoods in decisionmaking.
The applicant, who said the intent is to build residences and that the lot had been vacant for decades, answered brief council questions. With no public objections, the council closed the hearing, moved and seconded approval and carried the rezoning by voice vote.
Staff and the applicant were wished luck by the council following the approval. No conditions beyond the rezoning were recorded in the meeting minutes.
