The appointment followed discussion of the search and interviews; Commissioner Richardson also announced the internal promotion of Michael Jenkins to assistant director, saying the two "worked together" through the interview process and she looked forward to their leadership. The board congratulated both employees and thanked interim staff for covering the department.
The appointment was decided by roll-call vote during the called meeting and recorded as carried. The meeting then adjourned the called meeting portion and opened the workshop agenda.
The board's personnel action completes the hiring step for the parks and recreation leadership team; the new director and assistant will oversee parks operations, programming and scheduled capital work already identified by staff.
