TxDOT driveway requirement reduces downtown food-truck park to pilot scale

Staff said the reduced layout will cut concrete and related costs roughly in half from the earlier $77,000 estimate to approximately $38,038.05 for the revised scope.
Councilmembers described the reduced project as a reasonable pilot that still leaves the space usable for events and parking if the food-truck concept does not succeed. One councilmember urged that staff continue to refine the design and pricing and to bring cost estimates and potential amenities (tables, shade) back for review. No formal procurement or budget action was taken; council agreed to proceed with further planning and return with updated quotes.
Staff noted that the initial contractor expects to provide a fresh quote once TxDOT's driveway constraints and the revised layout are finalized. Council asked staff to consider alternatives such as hammerhead turnarounds or different access patterns to accommodate larger vehicles and requested staff return with a recommended course of action next month.
