The Chester County Board of Education voted to approve a packet of policy revisions drafted by the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA).
Board members approved adjustments to the grading/valedictorian policy to align with the state’s 100‑point scale (removing a separate 4.0 scale), confirmed the district will seat a student board member who will begin serving in August as a non‑voting participant, and reviewed new wellness requirements drawn from recent state action. The wellness language clarifies that K–5 students should receive 40 minutes per school day of recess/free play (in addition to physical education) and that students in grades 6–12 should be allotted 90 minutes per work week of free/play activity; the board noted the measure may be revisited after one year.
The motion to approve the TSBA packet was made, seconded and approved without recorded opposition. Board members asked staff to ensure the student board member will be excused from executive‑session personnel matters and to confirm whether prior statewide resolutions on student membership had advanced at the state level.
Board leadership said the district will communicate the changes to principals and prepare any implementation guidance necessary for staff and families.
