Chesterfield board elects Kim Burch chair, Scott Sims vice chair and names Robert Teal secretary

Kim Burch was elected chair of the Chesterfield County School Board on Monday after nominations and a show-of-hands vote, the board announced at the start of its Jan. 13 meeting. The board recorded a 6–3 margin in favor of Burch over Dr. Darren Coleman. "Congratulations, Miss Burch," the presiding official said after the tally.
The board also elected Scott Sims as vice chair by a 6–3 show-of-hands vote. Robert Teal was named secretary by acclamation after nominations closed. Board members completed oaths of office for new and re-elected members earlier in the meeting; Ashley Story, the district attorney, administered the oath.
After reorganizing, the chair declared offices to be vacated and opened the meeting's business items. The board approved the meeting agenda by consent and then moved into a 30-minute executive session under the exemptions listed on the publicly posted agenda. The presiding official noted that motions and the reasons for executive session entry were recorded on the agenda in accordance with state FOIA requirements.
The meeting resumed in open session later that evening to continue routine business.
The board chair, vice chair and secretary will serve until the board's next organizational action; the board did not adopt any additional binding policy changes as part of the leadership votes. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 10 at the Palmetto Learning Center.
