Council approves $101,416 computer purchase; appoints Judah Richardson to Planning & Zoning

The Hamilton City Council approved a resolution on Sept. 23 authorizing the purchase of computers and peripherals under state contract number 4400028252 for $101,416.14. IT staff said the upgrade is needed because Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, and the city's existing machines are mostly 8–11 years old. The package covers approximately 112 desktop machines for regular staff, 16 laptops for department heads and other staff, specialized machines for dispatch and GIS, and point-of-sale-style touchscreens for utility billing.

"This is in reference to Microsoft saying, October 14 is the end of life for Windows 10," the IT director said, noting the procurement was discussed during budget meetings and reduced from an estimated $130,000 to about $101,000 through contract procurement. Council members praised staying under earlier estimates and asked that code-enforcement needs be considered; staff said they would coordinate to make sure specific departmental needs (for example, devices used by code enforcement inspectors) are addressed.

Separately the council approved a resolution appointing Judah Richardson to the Planning & Zoning Commission for a term ending June 15, 2029. Richardson introduced himself and said he has attended council and planning meetings and is willing to serve.

Both council actions were approved by recorded voice votes during the meeting.
