Residents raise library, homelessness and parks concerns during public comment

At the Sept. 17 Grants Pass City Council meeting, several residents used the public-comment period to raise local concerns on library materials, homelessness and procurement.
Seanie Nelson urged scrutiny of a children’s book he said was presented in the children’s section of the library: "This book actually ... is entitled, Who Are You? The Kids Guide to Gender Identity," he said, and argued teacher curriculum materials should not be in the children's area.
Byron Robertson, a county resident, urged the city to tighten its RFP process for homeless-services grants, suggesting more vetting and prequalification similar to public-works bidding rules.
Dell Aldridge described visible car camping and drug activity in Morrison Park and asked whether short-term rentals such as Airbnb are being captured in the city’s lodging-tax system; staff later confirmed that the city collects lodging taxes from short-term rentals currently registered with the city.
Other comments included legal notices presented by a caller identifying as Mr. Fitch and scientific observations about weather patterns from Reka Brown. Councilors thanked commenters, noted staff follow-up actions and reminded residents how to report code violations to city services.
