Chippewa County commissioners on Dec. 19 approved a slate of resolutions, contracts and budget actions during their regular meeting.
Among the formal votes, the board approved a resolution supporting development of the Penwind Industries LLC waste-to-renewable project for the Upper Peninsula and adopted Resolution 2024-37 supporting local control and a claim of appeal related to the Michigan Public Service Commission; both measures passed by recorded or unanimous voice votes.
The board accepted a finance committee report and approved several routine but consequential items: renewal of the Chippewa County Health Department's professional liability insurance (coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2025); authorization to purchase public-health software using the Public Health Infrastructure Grant and ongoing support; approval to dispose of several sheriff vehicles to a scrapyard; a $3,700 transfer to cover a recruitment sponsorship difference; and a three-year Motorola Solutions central dispatch service agreement for emergency services. The board also confirmed that $5,856.84 in unexpected veterans-service funds was returned to the state per grant requirements and authorized a first amendment to the county's Mental Health Court contract.
On finance matters, commissioners approved year-end budget amendments including a $500,000 transfer from the general fund to cover merged divisions with unfunded liabilities, and approved MBAA grant amendments to add two cell phones and one laptop. The board authorized a courthouse stairwell flooring contract with MCS Flooring LLC not to exceed $5,100.62 and approved two service agreements with Forensic Fluids for the 50th Circuit Drug Court and the county medical examiner.
Most motions were carried on voice vote with no recorded roll calls in the transcript. Commissioners closed the meeting at 4:45 p.m.
