Council approves $33,862 hydro control purchase; easement agreements reached for sewer project

At the Aug. 25 meeting, the council approved a $33,862 purchase to install a cellular-controlled 'smart' valve at the Stamping Ground tank that staff said will improve low-pressure areas in northwest Scott County and automate tank filling and draining.
Chase Avedito (speaker 20) explained the valve would be operated through the city's SCADA system and provide automated pressure control; he said the work requires no easements or pipe installation and estimated an 8–12 week lead time for equipment. Avedito said the improvement is a low-cost operational measure to boost system pressure in an area testing at or near the minimum standard of roughly 20 pounds per square inch; he added that current operating adjustments already raise system pressure toward 40 psi in some tests.
Councilor Hampton moved to approve the hydro controls purchase; the motion was seconded by Councilor Minkie and passed by voice vote.
Later in the meeting Avedito reported that, as of 3:00 p.m. the same day, staff had reached agreements with property owners on all required easements for the Deshaies and Water Street interceptor sewer replacement project, avoiding the need for condemnation and allowing items b and c tied to easement acquisition to be removed from the agenda.
