Trustee Guerrero Gec said he "had a little bit of a struggle" with supporting an internal candidate who has not previously been a principal given ongoing challenges, but said he had done additional homework and heard positive reports that led him to support the superintendent's recommendation while remaining "watchful." Trustee McFadden moved to hire the candidate; Trustee Whitaker seconded.
The motion to hire Dr. Dina Pineda passed unanimously. The Board called for public comment before the vote and, finding none, recorded the ayes and President Malkovich declared the motion "unanimous." The superintendent said that, if approved, staff would move quickly to fill any vice principal vacancies to support the transition.
Dr. Pineda told the Board she has been with the Churchill County School District for seven years, served three years as the middle school's vice principal and noted she served seven years in the United States Army. She thanked trustees after the vote and invited them to visit Churchill County Middle School at 650 South Main.
