Person County commissioners on Sept. 15 voted to send a package of zoning text amendments to the planning board for public hearings.
Interim planning director Margaret explained the package includes: consolidation and clearer definitions of many permitted uses (reducing duplicative entries), proposed allowance of RV parks as a use in the RC district, and suggested changes to review processes such as moving certain special-use permit decisions from the Board of Commissioners to the Board of Adjustment. She recommended against managing short-term rentals through the land-development ordinance, saying enforcement belongs with other departments and planning tools may be slow to address those concerns.
Commissioners discussed timing and the desire to complete work while the current planning director remains on staff, noting that if the planning-board hearing attracts many speakers it could be a lengthy meeting. The board voted to place the proposed amendments on the planning board's upcoming public hearing agenda. Planning staff agreed to provide more detailed planning-board hearing minutes for commissioners to review.
