Person County commissioners voted Sept. 15 to award a contract for an access-road rehabilitation project at Raleigh Regional Airport.
County staff explained the project would rehabilitate the private airport access road where state maintenance ends on Montgomery Drive. The county received one responsive bid and recommended awarding the contract to Fred Smith Company for $675,274, with execution of the contract conditioned on legal review. Staff said airport construction funds would be used and that some FY26 funding might be requested.
Commissioner Along stated his family owns a paving company and recused himself from the vote; the board took the vote with the remaining commissioners and approved the award. County attorney and staff said they would pause execution if a legal issue arose and return to the board if necessary.
