Pinellas superintendent announces tentative agreement with teachers association; ratification pending

Hendrick framed the deal as especially important in a difficult budget year and noted the district reached the compromise before the Oct. 1 deadline for the teacher salary increase allocation. "The district and the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association came to a tentative agreement and concluded negotiations for this year," he said.
Lee Bryant, president of the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association, spoke during public participation to thank negotiators and to criticize state funding for education. "For a state that claims to be third largest in the nation, the funding of our public schools is shameful," Bryant said, calling the statewide offer of 0.7% for teacher raises "insulting." He urged better pay and investment for educators and students.
The superintendent said the administration will publish timelines for employee ratification and will bring the final ratification steps to the board; no formal board vote on the contract was recorded at the meeting.
