Pasco School Board adopts $2.3026 billion final budget, sets millage at 6.274 mills

Superintendent Legg opened the board’s public hearing on the budget and described the required steps to adopt the millage and finalize the budget. "Tonight tonight, the board is finalizing the, 2025 fiscal year budget," Legg said as he summarized the district’s revenue and spending priorities.
Legg and staff outlined what they said were the major drivers of the budget: enrollment shifts and associated state funding changes, rising health-insurance and Florida Retirement System costs, utilities and SRO contracts, and school-construction and renovation work. As an example of the district’s presentation to homeowners, staff said a homeowner of a $350,000 home, after a deduction of a $25,000 homestead exemption, would pay $2,039 in taxes under the proposed rate — a $19 decrease from the prior year.
Board members discussed staffing and the referendum passed by local voters. One board member thanked voters for passing a salary referendum that leaders said helped the district compete for teachers. District HR reported classroom-teacher vacancies fell from 244 at the comparable point before the referendum to 68 this year, a roughly 1.46% vacancy rate.
On motions to adopt the millage-resolution and the final-budget resolution, the board recorded the motions, heard brief discussion and then voted. The chair announced "motion carries" after each vote; the final adopted budget figure announced by the chair was $2,302,572,432.
What happens next
District staff said budget amendments will be submitted if later changes are necessary and that the district will certify the adopted budget to the Florida Department of Education as required by state law.
