The total grant request is $571,880 with a local share of $67,005.99. The board voted to approve the submittal.
• Motion to proceed with the Piedmont Community College sublease request. PCC representatives and Zachary staff presented a plan for a South Campus sublease, which Zachary said would support interviews and hiring for roughly 1,000 jobs tied to Duke and Zachary projects. The board voted to allow staff to proceed with the sublease discussions and approvals.
• Access road rehabilitation contract awarded to Fred Smith Company for $675,274 (pending legal review). Commissioner Along recused himself from the discussion and vote, citing family ownership of a paving company. The remaining commissioners voted to award the contract and authorize the county manager to execute documents pending legal review.
• Planning/UDO text amendments sent to planning-board public hearing. The board approved sending a package of text amendments—including consolidating and defining permitted uses, considering RV parks as a use in the RC district and proposals affecting special-use permit review—to the planning board for public hearings.
Other procedural approvals included adoption of a retirement resolution honoring Melinda Hudson and approval of the consent agenda. The board also entered a closed session to discuss negotiating strategy and property acquisition.
