Fridley outlines baseball and softball field upgrades, including Twins grant support

District athletics and facilities leaders presented a multi-part plan to upgrade Fridley’s baseball and softball facilities, citing safety and aesthetics as drivers of the work.
Director Justin Reese said the work will replace worn backstops and dugouts, install powder-coated fencing and new foul poles, add batting cages and a new scoreboard, and include storage and dugout improvements to serve youth through varsity levels. Reese noted a $15,000 grant from the Twins organization to support the project and named community volunteers and coaches who contributed to the design process.
Board members and the superintendent emphasized safety improvements—Reese said new netting and backstops will prevent foul balls from leaving the field of play—and called the upgrades part of broader investment in facilities funded through referenda and other designated funds. The board placed the related items on the consent agenda for approval.
